Nothing special is required if you’re just looking for somewhere to charge. Most third party charging apps will ask you in settings to either select your car model and/or preferred charging plugs.
Now if this CarPlay is some trip planning feature where it automatically fills in stops based on your current range and destination, I can see that requiring some sort of special communication with the car.
As a workaround, I’ve been telling maps to search for “DC fast” when I’m looking for a charger. It’s kludgy, but it seems to work.
Restricting EV routing to certain car brands is ridiculous.
I remember when it was Apple‘s policy not to pre-announce products or features that weren’t ready to ship. This is a good example of why.
Seems like a poor design decision. The portables can be charged from either MagSafe or USB-C. You would think this would use similar circuitry where one power input would be ignored while the other was connected.
Bizarre. Looks like a bug even though it isn’t.
